Where are they now? Catching up with TSI’s Alumni Emily Canto!

It has been a year since Emily Canto graduated from Tenaj Salon Institute and became a licensed Stylist.
We caught up with her at Cloud 9 Spa Salon in Gainesville, Florida, where she has been working for over a year.

HOW HAS LIFE BEEN SINCE GRADUATING FROM TSI?

It has been great! I have had the best experience and have been so lucky and blessed that so many people trust me to take care of their hair. I have been busy building up my clientele here at Cloud 9 Spa Salon and just enjoying life!

DO YOU FEEL LIKE TSI PREPARED YOU FOR A CAREER AS A STYLIST AND IF SO HOW?

Yes! I learned the fundamentals of Cosmetology, but TSI also taught me how to be professional, grow my client base, and interact with Guests. TSI is such a great environment to learn your craft, the fact that the clinic floor is set up like a real Salon makes a world of difference. You can’t learn how to correctly interact and treat your Guests from a classroom or watching a video; you have to learn it by talking to people and performing services on them.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE CLASS AT TSI?

OMG! That is such a hard question. I loved all my classes at TSI, but I have to say any class taught by Mrs. Armstrong; her energy is just so infectious, and she makes learning fun. I always looked forward to coming to class the days I knew I had her as an Instructor.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TSI?

My Mom and I happened to be in Ocala one day, and we decided to schedule a tour at Tenaj Salon Institute because we were so close. I had been looking at a bunch of different Cosmetology School in Central Florida. Still, I didn’t love any of them. The minute I walked through the doors at TSI, I knew this is where I wanted to go to School. Everyone from the Educators to the Students were so professional and caring you could tell they loved what they were doing. The clinic floor is impressive, you don’t feel like you are in a school, but an actual salon. Everyone was smiling, and it made me want to be a part of the School as well.

Even though I was living in Gainsville and other options were closer to home for me, I knew I was going to get the best education at Tenaj Salon Institute. It was worth the drive every day to The Villages.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO PEOPLE WHO ARE THINKING ABOUT COSMETOLOGY SCHOOL AND WHY SHOULD THEY GO TO TENAJ SALON INSTITUTE?

If you are going to be a Stylist, you have to love what you do first and foremost. You should not get into Cosmetology if you just want to make money or think it is going to be easy. You have to be passionate about the Beauty Industry to be a great Stylist; people will know if your heart is not into it, and it will show in your work.

People should go to Tenaj Salon Institute if they want to get the best education possible. Not only will they learn the technical skills to become a Cosmetologist. They will also learn how to present themselves, what to expect in a real working salon even before they leave School. I have also made some of my best friends at TSI, which I will treasure forever, it was such a great experience, and I can’t speak more highly of the School.
